Our Story
Get to know me
Hallo Lyngen is owned and operated by me, Finn Kristoffer Hovem. I am a Norweigan-American adventure skier who became obsessed with skiing in Lyngen after my first trip here in 2015. Shortly after that trip, I moved to Tromsø to complete my degree in Tromsø with the Center for Avalanche Research and Education. Since completing my studies, I have been guiding full-time with AscentDescent/LyngenExperience until founding Hallo Lyngen in 2024. I enjoy the exploratory aspect of being in the mountains. In my free time, this has resulted in several steep first descents or obscure traverses; in my guiding, it is getting to experience familiar places with a fresh perspective or to include my guests in my decision-making process when exploring new terrain.
The name "Hallo Lyngen" comes from the pandemic, when I got into the habit of saying this enthusiastically as I took a panorama video from the top of every mountain I was skiing on. Since I was skiing so much on my own, I didn't realize this had become my routine until other people were associating this with me. A happy accident, as this joy and enthusiasm for the adventure I find in the mountains is what I hope to share with you!

In addition to guiding, I am pursuing my IFMGA certification with NORTIND and working as an avalanche observer in Lyngen for Varsom.no.
I am a proud ambassador for VPG.no and Varri AS, who supply me with quality equipment from Dynafit, Salewa, Arva, CAMP, Beal, MSR, and Thermarest. I appreciate their support.
